An Island Hut Poem by Valsa George

An Island Hut

Rating: 5.0

In the far fringe of a woody island
With a winding river
Making circuitous pilgrimage
There is a solitary hut
Visible through the patches of light and shadow
With its precincts lapped by the waves
And the rich alluvial soil
Engendering plants of robust growth

In it live a man and wife
A pair made for each other!
Their likes and longings
Blend and bleed into one another
Though they are at the subsistence level
Who have just one square meal a day
They grow in the joy of a living love
Making life a celebration in a rare way

Their humble hut, ever blessed by
Seasonal yield from fruit trees of tropical kind
Added by plants' flowery delight
A riot of pink, yellow, red and maroon
Where wild trees stand watch over
With creepers in greener leaves
And their foliage, in a merry dance
Latching and intertwining their delicate tendrils

In the air, there is a subdued roar
Made by the swish and swirls of life
But in the silent interstices
Between the rush and blur
There descends a heavenly peace
That sets their souls dancing
Making it a happy home
Sweeter than a mansion of gold

(Thanks Valsa George you once again inspired me.) The Only Worry There descend Adam and Eve and set their body and soul dancing in the moonlight making a home below the stars. Lo, the clouds came suddenly the dirt has been washed My God! We didn't see it in the heavens! Not worried of any dirt now You will send the clouds, that will make us green free of all dirt. During rains a hut at earth is better than a palace in the heavens. We shall follow the green trees soon you'll see colorful flowers sprung in us. Amazing! Water is flowing with a lovely tune, I remember when You taught us the names There was a name, river we think, We could not understand it in the heavens Now we know what a river is. Coming below from a mountain but where is it going? Let us follow it Alas! It’s no more! It has been merged in the ocean! Thanks God for expelling us from the heavens. The only worry that is painful is that you'll call us back one day!

Fantastic...! For you just an idea is enough to make a poem! You have built a beautiful heavenly hut..for Adam and Eve when they got expelled from Eden! How I wish I had your felicity of expression. I am glad my poem has inspired you in writing this beautiful work! A 10

Life indeed does not need the complexity that all of us give to it. A very inspiring poem

Such a lovely picture you have created. Peace n serenity of a simple life in the midst of Nature cannot be found in the fast-paced city life. Imagery is mesmerizing n calming. A wonder of poetic soul n depth. Loved it. A one!

I enjoyed this poem. The language and imagery is evocative and beautiful; and, of course, the message rings true. No amount of wealth can recreate what exists inside the walls of this subsistence hut. Well done.
