And If It's Love
If it is love, and whispers touch the river's wave,
And if it's hope, but the sun's rays can hit your eye,
As well as the diamond tips in ring words engrave,
It's not for you to get your secrets very high,
It is for you to hold me tight, this love to save.
But if it's woe, and flowing sighs may touch your heart,
And if it's love, but gray clouds swoop across the sky,
As well as sad ideas you may take apart,
It's not for you to change your mind and start to cry,
It is for you to keep love's dream as time goes by.
