"It's too cold Mom and I am hungry!
We have no blanket, no bread, and no water.
Why it's so?
You told me there is a God and He listens to all,
the ailing humans,
the helpless animals,
the delicate birds,
and the mighty beasts.
Dear Mom!
Why God listens to the beasts?
You say at the age of only seven
I am so beautiful that I look like a princess
but why I was born as a poor girl,
why I was born in a hut and not in a palace?
You say it was my fate.
Who writes the fate?
Does He write it himself?
Or the Angels write it on his behalf."
The mother had no reply.
She became silent as if she slept.
How could the widow sleep?
She was also hungry!
But while the sun was about to rise,
when even the barking dogs slept,
she also slept.
And when the sun rose,
The hungry child slipped from the hut,
in search of stale food remains in the garbage baskets,
whereat she was welcomed by cats and dogs,
the so called beasts,
and also by a hunter in search of a prey,
a so called human,
The real beast promised her,
fresh and delicious foods,
she followed the hunter to a nearby field,
and she was raped!
Good poem painful message but very real. Then you see a fat government minister driving by in a bentley bought with famine relief funds. You just want to rap him!
Pathetic plot. But in reality this is what happens. Poverty is the mother of all other social evils prevalent. Very well portrayed sir. Thank-you
Sometimes I feel very angry on God He is seeing everything but does nothing directly How will this injured soul wait for the judgment day if every obnoxious event happens on earth? ? ? ? Heart touching.... Feel tears in my eyes
To me, raping is a more heinous and horrendous crime than murder. Sadly, this crime is proliferating in my country too, by leaps and bounds, not due to poverty but bad governance. Thanks for raising concern and appealing to the conscientious people through this well written poem.
And this repeats in every part of the world. only poets weep
Innocence in human is being raped time and again. The overtakes the morality. These shameless creatures in society deserves befitting punishments. A thoughtful poem on what is happening around without fail.10 **
A beautiful poem that cries for inequalities in life and social ills of society. A meaningful message that serves a wake up call to governments that poverty in all its forms must be addressed totally to prevent other serious crimes. Brilliantly crafted and conveyed. To my Poem List. Five Stars!
A very touching poem. Deeply poignant and gripping. It brought tears to one's eyes. Poverty has many claws that could strangle and leads you to the state of nothingness.

Oh, my, this poem is so well-written, but so sad! I hope it is not a product of personal experience. I enjoyed reading it, even though I felt the ending was a foregone conclusion from the title. Keep writing. Keep sharing!
It's not a personal experience but it has been frequently happening in India and Pakistan.
