Ashes Poem by Mike Mendoza

Ashes

My heart beats like a soldier at war
My my. Thoughts galore
Living in peace is what they adore
But being with you is want I want more
Lonely and silent is such a chore
In the bedroom, in the dark, with a closed door

Separated, what it means to me?
A child without glee. One who's not happy
Confusion clouds my mind, like I'm in hiding
Like a prisoner released, that's not feeling free.

I'll hold on to you with all my might
Even if its making me cry
I'll see you in tonight
The daylight breaks the mist of misery
You are my greatest discovery
Sweeter than freedom. Sweeter than honey
I'll take what I can and won't leave you lonely
