Those are my favorite lines. You've managed to capture the feeling of being painfully cautious quite well. Also: practicing for the ache as you drift...that line is a great illustration of such a common human tendency. Thanks for shaing.
Wow another really good write! I could actually feel the ache in my chest as I read this. I know what it's like to want to tell somone to stay but be to afraid to say it.
