Believing In Mickey Mouse Maybelline Poem by Robert Rorabeck

Believing In Mickey Mouse Maybelline

Picture the flags, winnowing sunshine over
Your head
As they make love in Disney Land:
The girl you will never see again and her husband.

Airplanes touching down into bedrooms of
Make believe. Maybe they will have make believe children,
Little brown and white children taking brown
Lunches to school,

Dimpling pinwheels enjoying recessions in the middle of
Their bright schoolyards. They will never have to feel
The sad touch of rain again.

And here I am selling, trying to make
Love to a different ocean. Our minds are made of different
Cartoons as you may yourself down
To bed. Know that I once pretended to teach
You in school. Mickey mouse"s love is real
And you will never have to see me again.
