Black Rose Poem by Jeanette Palomo

Black Rose

The still of the night cuts deep in to my soul
For the pain of silence is one that I wish no feel, not anymore
For the moment I heard you speak my name my heart split in two making my body one again
'Follow me' you said 'now is the time when i can save you from your misery.

Like an angel you spoke to me the whispers in the silence drove icicles in my spine I thought I was hallucinating for the moment I saw your face I could not find the words to describe the weight lifted off my shoulders. The words were hard to find because there were no words on the earth to equal your beauty. Lost in your eyes I took a step forward to just graze your silhouette. That one touch would have sent me on a high road in a sea of dreams when I touched your perfect neck, my finger never found solidity I lost my breath and my eyes lost their capacity for holding my tears. My insides all turn to ash when I knew the moment of reality came. You were simply an act of my imagination.

You were so perfect for you were made in my perfect image you were everything I never thought I would be privileged to have when I awoke I awoke in tears I stretched out my palm in pain for the flesh of my hand was torn and punctured in all different directions.
In the center of the agony lay a single beautiful black rose
Not wet with blood, not damaged by my grip it was beautiful I could not hold back the tears any further the memories of you were here in my palm. Such beauty surrounded by such pain should never be. I would never be yours I would never be worthy of your arms
Never is such a long time but it is just my beautiful black rose.
