Brand Poem by Shruti Goswami

Brand

I like the lemony yellow one,
And the flaming red one too,
I like this brand of pretty clothes,
And like that brand of shoe.

I mix with people
Who prefer brands
For different tastes,
Colour and hue.
I judge my friends,
Companion mate
With different brands anew.

But once upon a branded time
When I was a little kid
I don't remember
Brand of shoes
Or which brand clothes I wore.
I knew I did not make good friends
Based on brands for sure.

Suddenly I remember this
And I now ask myself,
If I did not wear
The brands I buy,
What brand then am I?

Would you still have helped me out
And be my dear companion,
My friend in need, well wishers in deed
Or even my mate to begin,
If I was just the human brand
Like I've always been?

I tried and failed
To brand my soul
With politics or religion
The human brand just like a giant
Defiantly screams out every time.

So now I get me,
Now I swear,
Now I know forever,
The human brand is the only thing,
I know I'll ever wear.
