Can You Help Me Poem by Rick Elpers

Can You Help Me

Caught between two worlds
One above, one below
Both equal temptation
One created the universe
The other will parish
I stand on sand grasping
For a hold as this is where
I live, my body, my sight
This is where pleasure resides
This is where goals are met
The other is the struggle
As I'm called to choose
Against eternal life or temporarily
Set on shifting sand
As I want life but natural flaws
Lead me to desire the world in my face,
Even if love is a potential
That only comes from god
And gets played out here
Troubling my sensibilities
Caught between both realities
I constantly seek to be shown
The invisible god to which I know
Will bring peace but comfort
Wills my pride to find solace in
The presumed happiness of the
People and things
Of this plane of existence
That cannot be trusted
As I well know.
