Briefly Resting Poem by Rick Elpers

Briefly Resting

'briefly resting'
Two dogs wrestle happily over
a ball on the floor next to me
With the music flowing like ethereal
smoke mixing into the sound
of hammers and chisels in the studio
and the noisy excited chirping of
ground squirrels in a field nearby
cause an unusual symphony
While sitting here pondering the love
that we've shared briefly today
Hoping to build our lives together
waiting for your next email
energetic and resting with so much
to do, waiting for time to pass
into the fantasy you have created
in my heart and mind
With hope it'll be fulfilled in an instant
even with reality slowing to a crawl
Distance eludes our talk
and I hold to technology
to keep us united
Oh... I must get back to work!
