Childless Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Childless

Rating: 5.0

He died childless
But no regret on face
Worries had no place

What if son proved useless?
Daughter proved careless
All my work could have gone fruitless

I am satisfied
With whatever I did
I shall live in memory as not dead

One great statesman said” I have jawahar* (pearl)
Think if I had another one not honhaar*(not worth)
The life would then have been bekaar*(useless)

*Jawahar…..Pearl

*Honhaar….worth

*Bekaar……Useless

Yes. Better to be childless than have useless progeny. Well said Mehta Sir! Chandra Thiagarajan, Chennai Aug 28,2013
