Daddy, Please Don`t Die Poem by Bireswar Halder

Daddy, Please Don`t Die

The Aegean sea is now dead calm and quiet
Last night`s battle for life in the sea is over
No more fury, no fierce waves will restively chafe
Our flimsy boat will sail along our life.

Our lives were at peril in our own land
No security of life, only bloodbath, chaos all around
No basic human rights we could enjoy there
And finally we set sail for different shores

Dear Aylan, I frantically tried to save you all,
But the boat flipped upside down suddenly
The waves were in mad fits and your fate was afloat
And then your scream, “Daddy, please don`t die”.

I tried with all my power to tug you up above
And held you tight, I was so fidgeting, helpless
I was fated to let you go one after another, dear kids
Finally, your mom also left me – now I am so alone.

Yes, my dear, I am now sole survivor in my world
You three, do sleep in Turkey beach peacefully
I have lost everything and need nothing on the other shores
I will sit besides your graves to have some relief

Dear peace-loving countrymen, please wake up
And come forward to assuage the bleeding hearts
Grieved, I pray that Aylan`s soul will rest in peace
When the Syrians seek refuge on no willing shores.
