Darkness Of Soul - Wedding In War Zone - Poem by Nhat Thuy Vi

Tears streaming down on her face
She folds their name in two words ‘Viet-Nam’
To decorate the night sky – a thousand flares be traced
With the deafening guns sound -
how her wedding joy was embraced!

translation from Vietnamese poem:

Bóng Tối Tâm Hồn
(Đêm Tân Hôn)

Lệ chảy nửa dòng lệ khô đọng lại
Em ghép tên mình - hai tiếng Việt Nam
Đêm giăng hoa-đèn muôn nghìn trái sáng
Đạn liên thanh dòn thay pháo vu-qui

Poet's Notes about The Poem

War has darken the heart of the bride and overturned people happiness according to its will. Instead of flowery lanterns, firecrackers and laughters, it brought most dramatic scene of flare, gunfire, and tears. The word 'VietNam' engraved in the heart of people for the long years of suffering of war.
