Dead Or Alive? Poem by Practicing Poetess

Dead Or Alive?

Rating: 5.0

Pressed flower in a book
The Easter corsage that
My deceased fiance' bought me,
And tenderly pinned on my blouse.
As I'm jolted back to the present,
A teardrop falls on a petal.
Did that petal just become soft and alive?
Or are my eyes playing tricks on me,
And is it only wishful thinking?
If my tears could bring him back to life
I've shed so many of them,
That he would have returned years ago.

A convincing emotional lyric, expressing the sorrow which you felt and could still feel. Death-the ultimate sorrow.

Hello Michael! The bit about the petal becoming soft and alive, of course, is fiction- - a liberty that writers take. Last month was the 10-year anniversary of my fiance's death in 2007. Grief is only a measure of how much you loved someone. Thank you for reading & commenting! :) P.S: My brother just passed away this Monday. So, I suppose that eventually that will make its way into a poem, as well...

Thank you, Queeny, for your comment from a woman's heart. How are things in your neck of the woods?

Very well written. It is hard to comment on a poem that is so sad and personal but those qualities are what make it exceptional because they touch cords which resonate with most of us.

Hi Barry, Thank you, as always, for reading and replying. I think, don't you, that if the writer is very good at what he does, he should have the ability to cause the reader to feel what he felt when he penned his poem. Not there yet, but that's a goal I hope to attain to! You have a wonderful weekend, because you deserve it!
