Defeat Yourself. Poem by Alicia Bridget Smith

Defeat Yourself.

You’re in the wrong.
You know you’re in the wrong.
But what do you do? You blame someone else.
You blame every last bit of guilt, fear, pain and anxiety onto someone or something else.
It’s the easiest thing to do.
Maybe sometimes it’s the best thing to do.
But where does it end? Who’s to say when it’ll stop.
You blame society, you blame the killers, the muggers, the police and the politicians.
You accuse every soul on the earth.
You accuse them all before you accuse yourself.
But who knows what’s right? You don’t even know yourself.
You blame it all away. But inside, behind the walls, you’ll always be in the wrong.
You can’t defeat the world if you can’t defeat yourself.

Inspired by Tom Lay's soon-to-be novel.
