Down To Basics Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Down To Basics

Those needs, wants and dreams...
Have become more a reality to face.
United by many,
To reluctantly begin...
A stripping down to basics.
Leaving behind impressions to make.

Those needs, wants and dreams...
Once to welcome them to credit,
To deepen debts.
Without regret or happiness.
Achieved to receive or it expressed.
Has left many awakening to admit.
Lieing to themselves,
Is a costly and wasted expense.

And senseless.
Since...
Both physically and mentally,
A keeping up to address impressions made...
Few will find this excuse to use,
To be of value to those they owe.
Awaiting overdue debts,
Credited to nonpayment.
And not explanations to hear them heard!

"But...
I had needs, wants and dreams to fulfill."

-So do I. Or...
Should I say,
I did as well.
But...
The truth is this,
Not one person volunteered to accept,
To pay my bills just for thrills.
Can you believe it?
Not one! -

"What would you recommended or suggest,
How I pay you what I owe? "

-Hmmm...
Let's see.
You can either try hypnotism.
Or a bank to rob.
To then express your distress.
Upon your arrest.
With this to hope,
The judge is a close childhood friend.
The jury are your relatives.
And your prison cellmates,
Do not find you attractive.-
