Eden In An Apple Poem by Simone Harriman

Eden In An Apple

Eve, you're an internet queen
A magnetic hard drive
Considered in network locations
The motherboard of all blonde bombs
Your sexy software shell on screen
Plausible in plastic, in a plasmatic way
With posy pics and witty word power

Digital nails
Tapping and trapping testosterone
Titillating Adams apples
You're searching for substances
Of forbidden juices
Some deleted, some delighted
Nucleonic serpents, contortionists and extortionists
So ripe with viruses, personal fables and likes
From message-a-minute men

Oh fair maiden, I fear
A shining knights heart has wooed
But is unbeknown to you
A worm
Defragmenting in dungeons
A serial killer who stalks you
So lost in your cyber lifetime
Megabytes, gigabytes, terabytes away
You're all a twitter
Twittering with your tweets

First off, I love the title and the apple references. The internet is in a way a new world, a garden of Eve. I love the wordplay and images presented in this poem. This is a poem that needs to be rewad out loud. Just love it and the use of technolanguage is fun and fitting. Titillating Adams' apples indeed! Well written...a 10!

The key to this poem is in the title: a large space is compressed until it fits in a much smaller space. This means pressure builds, becomes potentially explosive. The speaker of your poem is well aware of the explosive imminence but she has things to say, that must be said, and she does in a voice remarkably calm. her awareness of the explosion has a calming effect. It's like re-reading Shakespeare, we know the characters' future but we are totally wrapped up in THEIR present life. This is a striking use of your creative energy.

You have such a variety of worlds you can delve into- - so much depth that you like to explore, some with tongue in cheek some with the taste of bitterness bitten into. I like how you handled this poem- -it has bite, it has warning, it breathes danger, there is a breath of well-deserved contempt, it shows compassion beneath it all as it takes its scalpel-like tongue to the dissection of what could lead to disaster and possible destruction.. I like reading your work- -I never ever know what feast you are preparing for us as I read each new poem. 10++++++++

i think i'm not familiar with THIS Eve. some favorite lines: Tapping and trapping testosterone Titillating Adams apples................i'm thinking you were NOT thinking of THIS: Dictionary Ad·am's ap·ple ˈadəmz ˌapəl/ noun unpunctuated: Adams apple; noun: Adam's apple; plural noun: Adam's apples the projection at the front of the neck formed by the thyroid cartilage of the larynx, often prominent in men. ============================================================= I've heard of Minute Men who fired upon the British soldiers in Massachusetts in the 1770s. I've heard of Minute Men.................in bed. But i'd never heard of message-a-minute men! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - A shining knights heart, has wooed But is, unbeknown to you A worm....................................................of course: knight's and: unbeknown is ok, but i like the sound (more) of unbeknownst: unbeknownst adjective un·be·knownst \ˌən-bi-ˈnōn(t) stvariants: or less commonly unbeknown \ˌən-bi-ˈnōn Definition of unbeknownst 1 : happening or existing without the knowledge of someone specified —usually used with to unbeknownst to us rumors were flying 2 : unknown - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - un·be·known ˌənbəˈnōn/ adjective adjective: unbeknown; adjective: unbeknownst without the knowledge of (someone) . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - i think this poem is cool...........in a good way. if i was familiar with Eve, i'd probably think it was even more cool. to MyPoemList bri :) i'm not very computer-savvy, but i'm guessing Eve is some site or whatever produced by Apple [not the kind put into pies]. more P.S. aka postscript: when i Googled a twitter i found atwitter as i thought i would. maybe a tweeter is all atwitter? ? ? definition i found for atwitter: excited; nervous; aflutter; twittering: They were atwitter at the prospect of meeting a Hollywood star

This is indeed an outstanding write made more significant by the great title! A vast world is compressed in an Apple iPhone! We are led into a paradise by the very touch of our digit ends. Once we enter there, we are led into the intricacies of the cyber space. When it is wooed at one end, viruses and worms wait to demolish everything at the other end! The choice of technical terminology makes the poem a stunning write! Top marks

Simone, this is pure genius. I wonder if someone had a similar thought when Apple was named? And you have me thinking....is there a substance behind the fabled cyber god...out there somewhere? A great poem.
