Away into the forest
Step after step
Away into a world of green
Trees dripping leaves
Spruces, pines and firs
Overlay their pungent scent
With the smell of earth
And faint decay
Virtual strangers yet companions
Step after step
Away from our lives
Away into Life
Rock, water, sun
Moss and ferns
Step after step
We climb and fall
Simple sustenance, rare sleep
Easy company...
Then it’s over
Step after step
We depart and part
In a concrete world
Of automobiles, buildings and roads
Step after step
Leaving the magic behind.
