Forests Of Growing Green Gold

living forests
touristic gold mines
if market mined

diverse flora fauna
sources of memories
seed imaginations

sold not once
as deforestation
but countless

times as living
life tapestries
creative webs

children of forests
bless all eyes all
hearts spirit seen

“weep child
the mighty totara
is (blade) fallen

no longer
forests thick
120 feet high

above life dense
canopy bird song
broad leaf trees

linear sharp
pointed leaves
(grew) dark

female totara
flowers red swollen
nut embedded”

who will
replant sacred

who will come
centuries on to
watch totara grow?

living sacred
ancient forest giants
were timber

sold when tourism
was life sustaining
growing green gold

Poem of the Day

poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti

A little while a little love
The hour yet bears for thee and me
Who have not drawn the veil to see
If still our heaven be lit above.
Thou merely, at the day's last sigh,
