Happiness Poem by kalemeera collins

Happiness

not certain on what it is
but sure isn't the calm in my gut
at least that is what i bore
when i set out in its pursuit
i will know i am happy
when i do all that pleases me
when i get that smocking hot lady
when i drink that specific wine
when i get my grade GPA towering
when i drive that prize car
And busk in that obscenely nice house
when the masses throws a thumb up..
precisely, when the world yields to me
i was headed for shocking discredit..

it took one better placed
better furnished with knowing and
better built with experience
top find that i pursuit happiness
in what it wasn't or never was.
handed me a miniature black book
with a labeling 'HOLY BIBLE' and said
'there true happiness that u
would ever find' flipped a page
and left with a highlighted
point of the page..

Blessed are they
which do hunger and
thirst after
righteousness: for they
shall be filled. #Matt 5: 6

made not much sense until today
for thru it all i have been better
oriented to appreciate that

Happiness is something
you come across as you serve Jesus.
When you are serving
a byproduct of righteousness.
trying to be happy by
focusing on my energy was wrong target.
peruse after righteousness
you will be happy.
The deepest need of
your heart will be met
only in Jesus.

am now better taught and
know happiness for what it is not
and what it is, i can tell the difference
because now i know why i felt so
empty up to until now.
the lord my happiness.
