Hope Poem by Andrea Bailey

Hope

The children are gone and this remains the cities are blanketed with human stain
The beauty of trees, sky and grass have all Been swallowed in a monstrous mass
A world of ugly, sin and fear I pray to God the end is near

I whisper a prayer and hold my breath For if I'm heard I'll meet my death

There is filth and hunger, So into the streets again I plunder
I am searching my pockets for some bread finding memories long ago dead

Then a whisper worthy of sleep I pray the Lord my soul He'll keep
Hours and hours how many passed Mine eyes they opened not slow but fast
There is pain in my bones and my flesh is cold I wonder while sleeping was my soul sold?

The day again now I face I search and search for only a safe place
I creep through the streets And a murder I witness by Satan fleet
I pray and pray I can stay no more Show me now that golden door

The children are gone, but Satan stayed Now he knows I don't belong I'm tired, week no longer strong my body is brittle and small No strength have I, none at all

Then there is a gentle warmth within Somehow knowing I'll soon be with Him

Cold be gone and hunger no more Show me now the golden door
The music is sweet to thine ear All evil is gone and nothing to fear
The sky is blue and the path is green And that road was ever so long
But now I know I do belong
