House Of Disagreement Poem by Mark Nichols

House Of Disagreement

I walked up to the house of disagreement
Knocked on the door
And tried to look decent
But nobody answered
They were all locked inside
Spinning wool they would pull
Through the needle's small eye

It was some kind of voodoo
They did in that house
Banter and bicker
And jester and joust
Were for argument's sake
It was not meant to be
There was somethin' for everyone
And nothin' for me

They were all so accustomed
To just saying 'no'
No one consents to anything so
You had better prepare to get bloated and slow
When you visit the house
They won't let you go

If you journey, my daughter to Chez Disagree
Nothing is easy and nothing is free
There's a hat hook for naysayers
A boot rack for heels
You can smoke their cigars
And make insider deals

You can hang out and kiss up
My girl don't you fear
They'll put you up proper
For a night or a year

But don't be surprised
If you've lost sight your goal
What they done to your heart
What they done to your soul

You forgot what you knew
What you care that you know
But you're more than proficient
In the art of the NO

They were all so accustomed
To just saying 'no'
No one consents to anything so
You had better prepare to get fat and get slow
If you visit this place, girl
They won't let you go

In the house of disagreement
Won't let you go
In the house of disagreement
They won't let you go
