I Am An American Soldier Poem by Amanda R. McKinnon

I Am An American Soldier

I live a life that many are not willing to lead. I wake up early just to do PT. Wondering what to wear is not something I do. Uncle Sam has given me some nice ACUs. I wear them with pride; A right I have earned. Blood, sweat, and tears; Hard lessons I've learned.
Loyalty, duty, and respect were built within me. But unless you're a soldier, there's things you can't see. Long, lonely roads with a family back home. Many tears cried though the pain's never shown. Kids growing up and their lives we will miss. So we savor every moment and cherish each kiss.
But we serve our country proudly though you may not understand. And we were our colors fearlessly even in a foreign land. Freedom isn't free but we gladly pay the price. You may not know our names but for you we sacrifice.
I am an American Soldier.....
