Through The Looking Glass Poem by Amanda R. McKinnon

Through The Looking Glass

Sometimes I look inside and see, there's the scared little girl that I use to be. The nightmares hide inside those walls, the cries that echo down those halls. The yelling voices that broke the nights, the pillow shield that muted the fights. Scared to move, don't want to be seen. Why do they have to be so mean? Take another pill to blur them out, just one more shot to silence the shouts. Don't want to be here right now. Just have to get away somehow. So take another drink and push the memories away, leave it all for another day. Push the scared little girl back in the closet, hide the key after you lock it. Don't want to ever again see her face, I hate to travel to that place. But sometimes when things get bad, I remember again the life I had. So let the tears wash the memories away, and be thankful for a brand new day. dropp the glass and say goodbye, to all the memories and let them die. Love the good and hate the bad, be thankful for the smiles you had. You learned a lot despite the tears. Time to let go of all the fears.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Learning to kiss the past goodbye. Not always an easy thing to do, but at some point we all have to let go.
