Second Chances Poem by Amanda R. McKinnon

Second Chances

We've been through the fires and came out holding each other. You've been my best friend and always my lover. We survived whenever they all thought we would fail, We've shared a strong passion and put each other through hell. We fight hard and love strong, but with you I'll always belong. We've watched each other grow over the last ten years, We've struggled to learn one another and even shed a few tears. There were times when we were both ready to walk away, but something inside always made us stay. You have my heart and it will always be yours, No more walking away or fear of divorce. I'll be here always, this is my promise to you. And you never have to question again if my love is true. No more looking back, the past is behind us. We've been given another chance, we just have to trust. So let's make some new memories and let the scars heal. No matter what anyone thinks, this love is for real.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this for my husband, Robert. We have been through a lot and at one point we almost got a divorce. But we overcame all the bad and have learned from the past. He is everything to me...we have shared almost 10 years together, and even though there were times we thought we wouldn't make it, we did and I thank God for that miracle everyday.
