I Am My Heart; I Will Sleep Poem by Leslie Alexis

I Am My Heart; I Will Sleep

It is day one of seven,
But feels like a thousand;
Yet not days or hours
Or years, but life-times;
Tomorrow will be eternity,
And the rest a dream;
During this time sleep alone
Comforts me, my love,
For then your face is always
Pillowed against my own,
And your lips always in reach.
I needn't build any memories
Without you, and my last
Should always be your face.
So I sleep ‘til you come,
And will not wake unless
It is to ready for your kisses:
those that surpass the ones
in my dreams.
