I Never Thought I Would See The Day Poem by Jeff Fleischer

I never thought I would see the day
That my dad would treat my mom that way.
It happened oh so fast.
Her body ended up in a cast.
What could have been going through his mind
To be so cruel and unkind?
I just can't understand
How he could act like such a madman.
Now I fear I'll end up like dad,
Forgetting that hitting a woman is very bad.
If the saying is true: 'Like father, like son.'
Will I also be the guilty one?
There is something I can do,
Dad, so I won't end up like you.
I'll get help quick for my anger,
And never act toward a woman
Like a violent stranger.
