If I Could Poem by Aaron Priestly

If I Could

If I could fly ever closer to the sun,
Stare down its capricious mouth and spit.
I would know how to break your hardened heart
And how to keep it, and mould it, and love it.

If I could scream down the dark night blanket,
Causing the stars to fall in the blink of an eye;
I would know that you needed me
That you loved me and that you would never lie.

If I could look at your eyes one last time
And whisper ever so gently a secret long untold;
I would know that you are no longer a dream
No longer gone and no longer sold.

If I could write the words to convince you
And make you see the vision I embrace.
I would sell my life to the cause,
To the unknown, to clinch the race.
