Island Of Us. Poem by Daniel Gelinas

Island Of Us.

Take a vacation in the Island of Us.

Throw away your calenders, your schdules, your plans.

Close your eyes and enjoy the rushing of a salty ocean in your ears as you wash up on the sandy bank of Us.

A hot fire is smoking, sending wave after wave of billowing smoke into the night sky above.

The dark forest appears familiar despite the darkness of the brush.

The glowing, margerine moon is reflected in the rushing river below.

A sudden chill sweeps across your frame and you begin to shiver.

The light of the fire draws you in close, fresh dew on your feet as your tread through the grass.

As you come closer and closer to the heart of the fire, the heart of you burns bright as a furnace.

The trees drape their smooth arms across your shoulders and tickle your stomach in a teasing way.

Sit by the fire and feel its warmth, for it burns for you.

Crackling twigs and smoking logs seem smile up at you as you lay amongest the bushes and the soft sand.

Let sleep wash over you if you are tired,

For tommorow holds anything you need and everthing you desire.

The beach you lie on is as warm and inviting as the finest bed.

The crackling of the fire and the changing of the tide make sweet song.

Tonight is not about rules, tonight is about I and you.
