Ẹ̀Jìrẹ́ Poem by Amore David Olamide

Ẹ̀Jìrẹ́

Ẹ̀jìrẹ́

I was asked to visit Olokuta
To see some beautiful pebbles
I was told to visit Iperu
Where the Palm trees made an art.
But when i wanted to beget a twin
They said I should pay visit to Isokun
With a pot of sweet cooked beans
And I should pay a befitting homage
To the tree and swinging monkeys.
They said i should obtain kegs of palmoil
Because they prefer to be indulged
And I should write and master eulogy
To give birth to these emperors
Who take the kowtow of their mother
And the submission of their father.
I gave birth to two emperors
Who transformed my wretched home
Edunjobi with their soothing eyes
That beautified my filthy path.
