Knowing The Indications (By St. Thiruvalluvar) Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Knowing The Indications (By St. Thiruvalluvar)

701.The minister who looks at the king and reads his thoughts,
Being untold, is the gem of the world engulfed by the sea.
702.Regard the mind-reader as equal to god, as he knows
The thoughts of others without any doubt.
703.Those who, by looks, make out the intentions of others
Should be pressed to serve under the king at any cost.
704.Those who sense the thoughts of others, without being told
look physically alike others but differ by intellect.
705.If you aren’t aware of the minds of others by looks
Of all the parts of your body, what use your eyes do have?
706.As the marble reflects the form of the things nearby
The face shows the throbbing pulses of the mind.
707.Is there anything wiser than the prescient face
Which forestands in showing likes and hates of the mind?
708.Enough to look at the face and have his friendship
Who introspects and divines all the woes to him.
709.If kings have well-wishers, who sense the kinds of looks,
they'll have the benefit of knowing enmity and friendship.
710.Nothing but eyes, the measuring tools, the wise ministers
Have to gauge the thoughts of the king.
