Ladder Poem by David Thomas

Ladder

i'm climbing a ladder
and so i climb
higher
and higher
no goal dead ahead
nothing clear below me either
just memories of the ladder
and i can't always climb,
i get tired. i've been tired for a while.
but then i will climb again.
Although sometimes i fall
because the bars are too slippery
from where all the sweat clung
and so i fall down,
but i get a grip before i fall too far.
then i remember not to hesitate there again,
so i climb right over
and i just keep climbing.
