Lament Poem by Rick Elpers

Lament

Freedom allows the heart
To explore true experience
However wrapped up in emotion
Do we tend to believe
Our desire to have the picture
Altered to fit the security we've
So strongly created to nullify
That which has threatened
The very life we hold
Truth in freeness gives uneasy
Realities that we revile and want
At the same time
It's sad we take away from those
loved the love we acknowledge
Only for a season
Deny and repent of it
As it were a sin
To protect a faltering heart
that can't be true
against ones aspiration
Leading to an unknown path
Rearing it's head back in the
face of freedom
