Leadership Positions Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Leadership Positions

Those picked to sit in leadership positions,
Would not be there if they cared about truth.
Leaders are often selected,
Based first upon their charisma.
Likeability.
Social capabilities.
With an ability to persuade,
Those dazzled by appearances.
To then have buyer's remorse,
When they discover it to be revealed...
What they have supported to endorse,
Had been an image to envision...
What was bought to buy,
Had only thoughts of themselves.
Representing the interests of their constituents.
Who too saw this within themselves.
To later express disappointment.
That their expectations of their leaders picked,
Was short of satisfying,
Promises made to include them in receiving benefits.
Campaigning to get their support and endorsement,
Is just part of an act to entertain and perform.
That's the benefit people get and that is it.
Expectations of prosperity,
And a chicken baked or grilled...
Served to the have nots on linen table tops.
Ain't happenin'!
And by now...
No one show feel betrayed.
Just played.
That's it.
Stadiums to fill. Attention to get.
With added news coverage.
What more do fans expect to receive,
From those who perform.
And leave them applauding the act.
