Lilies Of Love Poem by Mihaela Pirjol

Lilies Of Love

Rating: 5.0

The white candle's flickering flame

as the yellow-powdered white-lily's pistil

emanates an evanescent perfume:

melted wax and withered petals

(the honeybee of love
has poisoned the pollen of our hearts!)

they mingle with traces of tear-salt

at the tenebrous tomb of our love:

two inhumed hearts

perchance, from putrefaction

may separately blossom again

lilies of love…

This poem is intoxicating, vibrant, and comes for a sorrowful place to one of reckoning and new beginning.

I really loved the parallel imagery of candel's flickering flame and that of lily's pistal Though the poem mourns the loss of love it holds out a ray of hope for the future. Loved the poem. I couldn't review many of your poems for quite some time now since I was preoccupied in writing a children book and this was followed by its market promotion campaign.

The imagery is lush and lovely. I can sink into its sensuous charm and drowse in feelings of love - until that parenthetical reference to love itself spoiling a love affair. Then others images of loss of love prevail (tears, tomb, putrefaction) , but once the doomed lovers separate they just may find new lovers and restore love to their lives. Your poem expresses this through vivid images - the lilies at the end is the promise new loves will replace lost loves.
