Little Velvet Boy Poem by Lydia Martin

Little Velvet Boy

Welcome to the world little velvet boy
The tiniest babe you ever did see
A beautiful, perfect bundle of joy.

With doll-like poise, no bigger than a toy
I heard the cry of my sweet mini-me.
Welcome to the world little velvet boy.

A cord, though severed, no bond could destroy,
This breath of life like a living decree,
A beautiful, perfect bundle of joy.

Long and skinny, my gamboge saveloy,
Tinged with the hue of a day so sunny.
Welcome to the world little velvet boy.

His sparrow-like cry could never annoy,
From lamps and needles he begged to be free.
A beautiful, perfect bundle of joy.

Cuddle me someone was his only ploy,
A voice without words cries “it’s me, it’s me! ”
Welcome to the world little velvet boy
My beautiful, perfect bundle of joy.

Just about how I felt after the birth of my eldest son. Lovely poem Lydia. I love the line, 'I heard the cry of my sweet mini-me.'
