Lesser light ushers in summer's goodbye.
Young autumnal shadows stir and rise
From drifting mistier hues, and facing
This post-solstice time, we too must subside
Into autumn mood, - how soon summer dies.
Long sun-drenched days filter in duller shades.
Cooler nights leave reluctant fields parading
Some late fruits, but more whispering leaves fall,
Un-noticed except by breezes, impatiently
Waiting, - can nothing make autumn delay?
This is what I have just baptised a Whisper Poem. Beautiful and melancholy violins placed in gently to play as time reluctantly moves on. Wonderful, Fay! Hxx
The seasons go by so quickly, a very beautiful poem about the longest day heralding the days getting shorter again, 10 from me Lynda xx
I really like this one. The first verse is excellent, especially the opening couple of lines. Nicely done.
Fay, I think your smile would stop the day and keep autumn waiting. Beautifully expressed poem, your wording is divine. Funny here your soltice was our shortest day, so I am willing on the start of spring and all its majesty, to see our garden at it's best. A joyful read. Love Bobx 10
How soon summer dies.. Can nothing make autumn delay? Wonderful write Fay. I am so excited about finding you. I am drinking up your words here like a hummingbird enjoys his sugar water. Sweet and necessary to live. Susan
those breezes, turn into sneezes, as autumn marches on the summer sun is weaker, and the days are not as long your hemisphere is preparing for its winter sleep whilst in mine, green shoots appear, through the ground they peep Its a lovely time of year, autumn, Fay!
