Lull To Peace Poem by Maureen Adair

Lull To Peace

A little girl with bright, brown eyes,
full of questions, hurt by lies.

So small, fragile, hungry, weak,
she looks about herself, what is it she might seek?

Abandoned, alone, all see her flaws,
no one will embrace her, all obeying society's laws.

Her soul cries out for warmth and love!
the children are always bullying her, giving her a beating, a shove.

Devil's spawn they call her
prostitute's accident. Why must this occur?

Why do they call her and mama bad names?
why wont anyone with her, play fun games?

Nothings wrong with mama! shes so pretty!
shes the prettiest mama in the whole city!

Why cant all the other mama's with fancy clothes see?
that her mama's nice, her mama can also make good cake and tea.

Why is mama so sad?
is it because of all the men that look mad?

The men that always come to drink tea
do they hurt mama? Do they cause mama to kneel and to her God plea?

when will the world stop being cruel?
When will People see mama as a jewel?

When will the nightmares cease?
Will the beautiful stars finally lull her and mama to peace?
