Migraine Poem by Amo Mokobane

Migraine

Rating: 5.0

''You will feel better after you sleep''
'Don't worry a little rest will make you right as rain'

They do not understand the pain.
My mind is plagued and my neck is stiff with ache.
How can I sleep! ?

I am afraid to close my eyes.
Will I see the squirrels play?
Will I see again the swing my father made me in the oak tree?

I kneel and pray like mother taught me because she doesn't understand the pain.

Calm and peace surround me.
But still, there is pounding in my ears. And I long to hear the trumpet call
as I surrender unto sleep.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
There are hundreds of children around the world who complain about 'a painful headache' and nothing is done about it. Their parents simply tell them to sleep it off. Sadly they don't know that its a severe case of a migraine and the children are gone come morning. At the end of the poem the trumpet mentioned is the call that all believers of The Lord Jesus Christ will hear to call them to heaven. This highlights the innocence of the child who is still bathed in childhood innocence nd still has not committed sins that plague humankind. I wrote this poem because I too had very painful headaches and did research. I came across horrific stories of parents who lost their children because of ignorance towards these headaches.
