Maybe its the monkey in me
Some dumb drive to constantly climb
Hustling in the jungle for a higher perch
Perusing some bounty off Fruitless vines
But the fish in me just wants to sink
Swimming in bliss, in bottomless peaks
Never feeling an itch or suckered by bait
Just frying my lot, in deep coral peace
Yet they still say it's a dog eat dog world
But I'm a cat, and I don't follow packs
You can't force me for show or make me do tricks
I'm not your best friend, and I don't grovel for snacks
But I'm a born virus who calls itself human
Caged with a conscience of constant confusion
Stuck between a monkey, fish (and privately cat)
Playing the cruel punchline for evolution
What a poem of great depth. A wonderful write that captures brilliantly the complexity of existence.. The monkey, fish cat and dog are just amazing species that best exemplified the intricacies of humanity.
But I'm a born virus who calls itself human Caged with a conscience of constant confusion Stuck between a monkey, fish (and privately cat) Playing the cruel punchline for evolution what a lovely fact
Barring a few typos, the poem is an accurate representation of our kind and atrocities. Wonderfully crafted.
We are a jumble of all animal traits, sometimes a monkey wishing to climb higher and perch, sometimes, a fish swimming in the depths of comfort and peace, sometimes a cat craving to be fondled, sometimes a virus infecting the surroundings. We are constantly evolving and never static. In a way this is the puzzle of human nature! A poem of great depth.
Liked the ultimate stanza. Yes, we are caged with a conscience of constant confusion Superbly penned with great, great imagery and metaphor. A poetic gem that finds its way to my treasure chest.
