Motionless Steps Poem by Ashley Best

Motionless Steps

A brisk autumn day as the leaves whirl in the winds,
But I am standing still.

Clouds above my head dance through the bright lit sky,
But I am standing still.

Fragrances of love, change, purpose flow through my veins,
But I am standing still.

What will it take for the cement blocks to break?
How long can I hold on to something that makes my soul shake?

I reach out for your hand but the illusion drifts away,
I can see a perfect shadow of what could be when my eyes close the day.

Turn away, shattered glass, push through the closed door.
Timeless battles, heart implanted in the roots of the perfect more.

Breathe in, surrendered prayer, enduring waters.
Restless affections, painful grief, simultaneous withdrawal.

Rest easy now.
