My Adventure Through The Raspberry Bush Poem by Samantha McKinnon

My Adventure Through The Raspberry Bush

Rating: 3.5

Happiness and strength are not easily acquired
When it seems your brain is impossibly wired
By something else setting the scene
For a world where you simply shouldn't be. Where
Everything you do is questioned for rationality
And the only thing that changes is your personality;
Growing colder, colder
Until you appear as strong as a soldier.
Dodging bullets of condemnation from 'friendly' faces.
Each crimson wave braces you for the next.
People come, but mostly they go
Leaving you to never really know
Exactly who was true
And exactly who was deceiving you.
Trust is destructive,
And its consequences reconstructive.
They say, "Find a way to make your heart relax".
But you see, Closure is a double sided ax.
Each swing at your demons cracks open
The wounds on your back.
Repercussions follow you around every corner,
Leaving you as a mourner
Over the past and present.
But still you're resilient.
Each color seems to dull
As you feel your mind pull
You down into a swirling spiral of insanity
That leaves you isolated from humanity.
It pushes you to excel
At everything you do.
You scream inside
Every time you decide
To mask all your flaws with near perfection.
You're afraid that when the mask falls away
All you've worked for will fade away.
The scars from this raspberry bush will never heal.
But the world will continue to whirl
As its thorns lodge themselves into your heart,
Working so hard to tear you apart.
