My Back Poem by gershon hepner

My Back

Rating: 3.8

My back gave way today and I
feel in an instant I have aged,
unable now to sit or lie
or walk unaided. I am caged
within a body that can’t move
without the greatest pain, and worry
in case my lumbar spine should prove
a hurdle to the haste and hurry
that I can never overcome,
so I’ll be forced to take it slow.
For consolation here’s a crumb:
while I’m bent over like a bow
I’ll find a way to tell my story
to those who care about my fate,
and find in rhyme a way less gory
than surgery to make me straight.
