My Window Tree Poem by Dave Sherratt

My Window Tree

My Window Tree

Satdee Morning
So I've been sat watching Window Tree
And the way branches do sway
It's got me thinking, Are we a match?
And do Trees plan their today?
I see their leaves so gently falling
Upon the wet green grass
Then rise back up into the air
As speedy car drives past

I Wonder……
Are coloured leaves their best ideas
From the tree that stands so proud
Do they shed their leaves to store
In Mother Natures ground?
And then they're kept so safely
From winter's frosty dark
And protected from the pallid snow
To nourish Window's bark?

So I'm thinking
Maybe I could be similar
Losing ideas instead of leaves
And that they're stored in my head
Ready for an hour of need
And then when I'm ready
Untried ideas regenerate?
Until I'm no more broken
These conceptions have to wait
Red, Green & Golden leaves
That lay upon the clay
A rich rainbow of shades
To bring a jovial day

I Wonder
Do the colours represent ideas
From my Window Tree?
Are they their creativeness
And could that be in me?
And then as the tree in Springtime
Could I stand strong and tall?
My ideas could be regenerated
To stop another fall

So Why Now?
Autumn is my fave
The best season of them all
And that inspiring, sturdy tree
Is just outside my door
Maybe it's kinda weird
Being inspired by Window Tree
Just maybe that it's teaching
That I'm just being me!
