Nothing Poem by Matt Mercer

Nothing

Rating: 5.0

There once was a promise of  life,
That we thought would always be there
It makes no difference
Because it's god's decision...

...not what we think is fair
Blinded by the glory of eternity
Shielded by the arms of a lie
And we gain nothing from it all if we seek this ultimate victory,
from an untimely lie

The promises that once faded
To the trust that was broken
And the gifts that were grievously stolen
All in vain, but a cause for nothing
We felt the pain;
The emptiness that occupied our hearts
from all the torment; here from the start

If it wasn't for the man, who walked the garden
The man who spilt the blood
He brought shame upon us all
Although by the mind, he was created, to keep us together
Only to break us apart

Evil only lasts, in the absence of the good
All powerful? But did he do all he could?
Dependent upon a void, yet nothing is fully attached
It is a curious game this life
We accept things as they stay
Becoming victims
To the game it plays

And as we watch the time  pass
He slowly takes the meaning away,
Bewildered in his amusement
We still plead endlessly...
...endlessly to stay
And as long as he lives
as long as he remains
There is no good
In the strength he gains

It only took a moment
For us all to change
Taking a look inside
Thoughts and reasons
start to rearrange
But maybe this won't go through
Maybe all the dreams we had
Won't come true
The love we need will disappear
Spilling out, into the open sea
The destruction of an era
Is what will come to be

The timing is withheld
As we try to calculate the answer
The end was a new beginning
We would hear him say
But up until now
It was only the fearful
Who would fall on their knees to silently pray
They struggled to find their home
In a place they thought they knew
We try to help them understand their pain
But no matter what, the answers they give are for their own selfish gain

Feeling hopeless, wandering in the darkness
We hope to be shown the light
We don't give up,
We don't die
We don't fall from our perches
Without a fight

However, there's a place in between
Limitless in the love and peace it creates
Indeed it's unfortunate to understand
That its only available to those who believe
not to those who have good heart
Because at the end of the day
We realise we're falling...
...falling from nowhere
And no one is there, to break our fall

The world will encompass us without a care
Not a trace of love to be found, in the open air
The glimpse of hope had long ago faded
Trapped
Feeling the need to disappear
But into the nothingness
We are abandoned
And all is gone
After we'd seen the light
It scatters off, into eternal plight
Just another dimension
To where even the stars, cannot reach
More senseless words, from his lips he'll preach

Onwards says the optimist
Further to the peak
Onwards to hell
The further we seek
Another story
We'll tell the weak
