On Not Going To Ny For A Holiday Poem by Sheena Blackhall

On Not Going To Ny For A Holiday

I never saw the Empire building, the Statue of Liberty, Macey's store
I never the Peace Garden where the twin towers fell
I never saw Harlem, the yellow cabs, the Soul Gospel Tower
I never experienced the Rockefeller Centre, Central Park's spell

I never stood by the Hudson, or Ellis Island
I never drove to Ellen's stardust diner
I never walked through Broadway's music centre
I never thought ‘I'll never see anything finer'

No boat trip for me, no visit to Times Square
I missed the Bronx and MOMA with its art
I went for a week to Balquidder, its loch, its Bens
Its sounds, its sights, its smells were off the chart
