On Renunciation (By St. Thiruvalluvar) Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

On Renunciation (By St. Thiruvalluvar)

341.From whatever things one eschews desire,
one won’t suffer from those things and get into mire.
342.When you are wealthy, give up your desire to seek pleasure.
Many things you can aspire for attaining true pleasure.
343.Let the perceptions of all senses expire.
And to be beneficial, abandon each sensual desire.
344.No desire on anything is the nature of penance true.
Possession of desires brings confusions new.
345.The body is a burden to those who want to rid of birth.
Why do you have then other bonds of life?
346.He who kills the conceits of “I” and “mine”
Will enter the realm above that of the gods.
347.Those who detach not from the desires of “I” and “my”
Will attach themselves to a host of ills with a firm grip.
348.Those who forsook sensual desires reached heaven of mirth.
All others got entangled into the nets of birth.
349.Abolish desire to cut off birth again.
Otherwise it will alternate birth and death.
350.Desire to reach the feet of desireless God.
Have that desire too to rid of all other desires.
