Once In A Lifetime Woman Poem by Khethiwe Ndlovu

Once In A Lifetime Woman

Many people will tell you I'm complicated.
What I can say is I'm simply emancipated
because to me it only makes sense
for me to walk, talk and dress in confidence.
Women have wondered how I manage to continuously rise
even if they try strip away my dignity, and break me with lies.
I am a Once in a lifetime Woman.

Men have also tried to comprehend
the mysterious, mesmerizing, aura I send.
Why I'm regularly on their minds
because truth be told, this kind of woman is difficult to find
No need to remove any piece of clothing to turn heads
or gain love or self worth by being in any man's bed.
So if you're looking for a private show, consider me gone with the wind
Invisible?
More like Invincible.

I'm not too much to handle
I just regard myself as special
I don't need to be that girl in the magazine
Don't need a crown to be a queen
or wear limited clothes to be seen
maybe that's why those girls call me a 'has been'
Don't get me wrong though
I'm queening everyday, it's become a part of my flow.
I'll never let go of the woman I've turned into
because I've fought so hard to become her, that's true.

They'll say I'm not that beautiful
or 'he shouldn't like her, she's so uncool'
But it's safe to say that I Am
Intellectually, Perpetually, Beautifully and fearfully created
Whereas those girls, are just wasted, outdated, faded and overrated.

I refuse to fall in the trap of being like the rest
when I know I was created to be my absolute best.
Sorry sir/madam that I don't drink, smoke, party,
or get that occasional kiss
So that I may get a spot at the top of your popularity list
I won't 'pop that pill' or get that 'juice back' like you say
because at the end of the day
I'm a Once In A lifetime Woman

I'll focus on my studies
rather than on temporary buddies.
I'll look upon and chase the Lord
Instead of people who only need me when they're bored
I'll humble myself and let success do the talking
because only He will catch you when you are falling
That once in a lifetime woman?
I am that once in a lifetime woman.
