Ultimate Wish Poem by Khethiwe Ndlovu

Ultimate Wish

Ultimately I wish to be in your arms once more.
Cause out of all the angels, you're the one I'll adore.
I remember, instead of birthday wishes I received condolences
Because even today it makes absolutely no sense
As to why we suddenly speak of you in the past tense.
You called me a warrior a force of nature in fact
You told me I bring peace and keep everything in tact.
That I represent the four elements, Water, earth, fire, air.
That I should claim my crown as your heir.
So what happens now that you're gone?
You told me to be strong because I'm the backbone of a new generation.
So even though you're up there with God, I'll become everything you told me I'd be and more, no hesitation.
Because my ultimate wish, when you're looking down at me, is to hear you say, 'There goes my Queen'
My ultimate wish is to see the rain and sun collaborate creating a sequence of colour, knowing that my Queen awaits from the heavens

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Losing my gran made me realise how delicate and short life is and that we should always appreciate those around us and what they do for us.
