Ouroboros Poem by Devin Lasker

Ouroboros

Rating: 5.0

The clock goes on ticking
Letting us know that the end is near
But as an end approaches a beginning appears

Beginnings are something of legends
For with a beginning the sky is the limit
Ahead of you is a lifetime of choices
A lifetime of failures or successes
Of those sorrowful, happy, and neutral moments.
At first the beginning owns you,
But as you grow older,
A little bolder, that infinitive sky
Is a sky you can't cross over
You’ve got too much weight on your shoulders.

But yet,

The clock goes on ticking
Letting us know that the end is near
But as an end approaches a beginning appears.

The beginning of youth,
Is the beginning of truth
Where you learn the things you can and cannot do.
We lose the innocents and insight of a child
Well at least for a little while.
We trade them for expensive fashion
And greater passion,
But as passion blooms
We become consumed,
By responsibilities that will be our gloom.

But yet,

The clock goes on ticking
Letting us know that the end is near
But as an end approaches a beginning appears.

With the beginning of middle age
Comes the transition to center stage
Lights, camera, action
Now your world is ruled by transactions
As your passion for love turns into fertility
Now you have to pay with more responsibility,
But the price for some is way too high
The stress of it makes you want to sit down and cry.

But yet,

The clock goes on ticking
Letting us know that the end is near
But as an end approaches a beginning appears.

The beginning of old age is the beginning of the end
Death, mans' lifelong best friend.
Not a negative entity to be met with hostility
They teach the young but not out of responsibility
They look over them with hope at the endless possibilities
Possibilities that signify beginnings
As beginnings signify endings.

So the clock goes on ticking
Letting us know that the end is near
But as an end approaches a beginning appears.
